Lessons from the shop

Soundscape Composition

Unlike most children, I spent most of my childhood at the shop. Not by choice. My parents were immigrants, and like most, had to adjust to a new country, without support, learning a new language, and working many hours.

Growing up, at times I resented them for it. I would spend sick days sleeping in the office, do schoolwork in the office, and eventually get dragged into doing work.

The work wasn't anything dangerous, just at times brutally boring and annoying for a kid... Even now it can be.

Although I look back with an appreciation for my experiences.

How many people got a taste for the jobs they never wanted? How many times has society tried to insinuate the only way to be successful is by pursuing university? How many people can say they started a business from the ground up, that can say they love what they do, or that can say they did not do what was expected of them but rather did what they did best?

A. Fix Equipment. Established 2004.

This is my dad, an elementary school drop out and successful business owner.

This is Safira. She's the one you can hear.

Inside of the shop. The only day it quiets down is on Sunday.

One of many offices I spent time in. Always work to do be done because you never really can catch up.

This is me! Up on a boom lift. I learned to drive machines before I hit double digits in age.
